It can take as much as five years of living beyond your means before it catches up with you. There are certain messages in the Bible that apply to everything-self control is one of them.No matter what kind of problem we have in our lives, self control comes into play.If we do not discipline ourselves, our emotions rule us and our lives will be miserable.
To exercise self-control is to live in moderation.everything good in life requires quality decisions and discipline to make it happen, including how we handle our finances.many of us live under great pressure due to debt as a result of not disciplining our spending habits. If we have gotten ourselves into a mess financially,we are going to make a decision to do whatever it takes to get out of it.
Proverbs 27:23 says,"Be diligent to know the state of your flocks".A lot of us in debt do not know how much we owe or to whom we owe it.Knowing this is very important to get out of it.
We need to make a list of all our income and outgoing expenses..(pretty easy right!).Is there enough coming in to cover what is going OUT??
The situation may seem overwhelming if what you see is not good.Remember we did not get into debt overnight and nor are we going get out of it overnight. But,if you believe in Jesus Christ,we have the spirit of Christ inside us-complete with the fruit of self control (John 14:17; Galatians 5:22-23).We have to keep saying,"I have a spirit of discipline and self-control.I will do what God tells me to do and not be controlled by my feelings, even in the area of my finances.
If we make up our mind, gather all that we need to stick with it,overtime we will see the harvest of financial freedom that is God's will foe our life.
